The 40 members of the North Allegheny boys lacrosse team spent the weeks leading up to Christmas spreading holiday cheer with several charity projects to benefit the community.
The team wrote holiday letters and cards for deployed United States Navy midshipmen, shopped for and wrapped presents for four students on behalf of The Toys for Tigers program, donated $245 in cash and $170 in gift cards to the Toys for Tigers program and baked and decorated cookies for local families.
Team members also collected and filled more than four large boxes of toiletries, gloves, hand warmers and socks to donate to residents at the Light of Life Rescue Mission and the Pleasant Valley Men’s Shelter.
“Our goal was to show the boys that giving back is important,” said John Rullen, head coach of the NA boys varsity lacrosse team. “While sports are an important part of their life right now, we also want to focus on charity and thoughtfulness during the holiday season.”
This is the second year the team has participated in the holiday service program.
