Events planned throughout North Hills to help usher in holiday season

Activities are planned throughout the North Hills to help residents get into the holiday spirit. Here are some of the upcoming events scheduled:

Nov. 23 — St. Brendan’s Holiday Craft Show and Cookie Walk: St. Brendan’s Episcopal Church in Franklin Park is hosting its annual Holiday Craft Show and Cookie Walk from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 23.

The event will feature more than 45 vendors with unique gift items including handmade clothing, accessories, gourmet foods, home décor, soaps, woodcrafts, jewelry, pet items, ornaments and candles.

Shoppers also will be able to choose from dozens of home-baked cookies.

The church is located at at 2365 McAleer Road.

Nov. 23 — Mission Mall and Cookie Walk: St. Paul’s United Methodist Church is hosting a Mission Mall and Cookie Walk from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 23 to benefit non-profit charitable organizations.

The Mission Mall features more than 20 local and international nonprofits selling fair trade and handcrafted items. They feature local artisans and those from developing countries. All proceeds benefit the nonprofits selling the items.

A varied and wide range of items will be for sale including home decor, Christmas items, fair trade coffee and chocolates, woodcarvings, hand-knitted hats and scarves, lots of jewelry and more.

The Cookie Walk features hundreds of varieties of cookies and other baked goods that will be sold for $9 a pound.

The church is located at 1965 Ferguson Road, Allison Park.

Nov. 23 — Craft and Vendor Show: The Norwood Herrington Chapter No. 356 Order of the Eastern Star is holding its third annual holiday Craft & Vendor Show from 10 to 3 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Greater Pittsburgh Masonic Center.

The event will feature more than 70 vendors offering handcrafted items, unique gifts, sweets, jewelry, decor, apparel and a large basket auction of items from the vendors participating in the show.

The Masonic Center is located at 3579 Masonic Way off Cemetery Lane in Ross Township.

Nov. 23 — Ross Township Holiday Craft Show: Ross Township is holding its annual Holiday Craft Show featuring an array of vendors from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 23 at the municipal center.

Nov. 25 — Christmas Tree Lighting: A Christmas Tree Lighting and holiday festivities will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 25 at the McCandless Crossing shopping center in McCandless.

The free event will be held in the shopping center’s town green and will include hot cocoa, treats and entertainment starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott.

Nov. 30 — Giant Snow Globe: Make your holiday photo really “pop” this year by have it taken inside a 20-foot-tall globe that will be set up from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 30 at The Block Northway in Ross.

Participation is free, but a donation to benefit the Community Liver Alliance is requested.

Visitors also can enter to win a pair of tickets to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s Dec. 22 performance at PPG Paints Arena courtesy of radio station BOB FM, which is one of the event’s sponsor. Another sponsor, Q92.9 FM, also is raffling off a pair of Cedar Point gold passes.

Dec. 6 — Welcome Christmas to West View: West View will hold its annual Welcome Christmas to West View event from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6.

Santa will be on hand to light the tree and there will be performances by the North Hills Brass Band and the West View Elementary School Choir.

Kids activities, including how to make “reindeer food,” will be held at Ridgewood Church.

Dec. 6 — Cookies with Santa: The Baierl Family YMCA in Franklin Park is hosting a Cookies with Santa holiday party from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Y is located at 2565 Nicholson Road.

Dec. 15 — Skate with Santa: Santa’s elves will join guests on the ice at the North Park Skating Rink and Santa will be available to pose for photos. The all-ages event runs from noon to 4 p.m. The last day to sign up is Dec. 14.
