A carrier at the post office along McKnight Road recently was honored with the Postmaster General Award for heroic efforts while on the job.
Carrier Michael Brindle of Allison Park was delivering at the Community College of Allegheny County on Oct. 11 and noticed an employee on the floor suffering from a medical emergency, according to postal service officials.
Brindle determined that the employee had no pulse and began administering CPR until emergency responders arrived.
“Tragically, the employee did not make it through the event,” officials said during a Jan. 7 presentation honoring the carrier. “Michael Brindle went above and beyond the call of his regular duties and did everything he could during the crisis.”
On hand to present the award to Brindle were David Webster, the postal service’s acting director for the Western Pennsylvania District; Pittsburgh Postmaster Susan Taylor; and Mark Arthell, the postal service’s customer service operations manager.
The supervisor of the college’s physical plant department issued a letter of gratitude to the Postal Service and Brindle’s efforts to help the employee.
