McCandless is accepting applications to fill the unexpired term for the Ward 2 representative on town council.
Council has until June 14 to replace first-term councilman Bill Kirk, who resigned his seat to avoid a conflict-of-interest with his new position for the North Allegheny School District.
Kirk’s term runs through 2021.
By law, council has 45 days to fill the vacancy with a resident of the same political party as Kirk, who is a Republican.
If council fails to cast a majority vote to fill the post during that time period, members can petition the courts to appoint a replacement.
The petition for Allegheny County Common Pleas Court to fill the vacancy also can be filed by 10 residents who are registered to vote.
To be considered for the position, a resident must be registered Republican and reside in Ward 2.
Applications are available online and can be returned by email along with a resume and/or a letter of interest to
Applications also can be sent by mail to Town of McCandless, 9955 Grubbs Road, Wexford, PA 15090.
